THE BISON POWER FAQ
Discover the answers to important questions about solar
What Are My Options for Purchasing Energy

When it comes to your energy provider choices, if you're like most people you only have two realistic options.

Option one is to go solar. You choose to take control of your power generation, spend less for the energy you need for your home than you're paying your utility company, increase the value of your home, be energy independent, have power when the grid goes down, and do the right thing for the environment.

With Bison Power we make the whole process incredibly simple for you. We offer Zero down financing to qualified buyers and handle the entire project from start to finish. There's really nothing you need to worry about. We take care of everything for you.
Is Solar a Good Investment for My Family?

It is well-documented that solar increases the value of your home.
A solar system generates valuable electricity. It can also produce an income for some home owners.  Each KW you produce is a KW that you don't have to purchase from your power company. The future value of all those savings is also a valuable asset to the next buyer of your home.

So, enjoy the economic benefits today and get more for the sale of your home tomorrow.
Is Solar Outside of My Budget?

One of the most common questions about solar is "How much money is this going to cost me up front?" You might think that it takes a lot of money up front to go solar. Maybe you're thinking going solar is out of reach because you might not have a lot of money to spare.

We have good news! Due to Solar's dramatically increasing popularity, solar is now the least expensive option to get energy in just about every state in America. And with low interest rates and many favorable finance programs, it's easier than ever for most homeowners to get zero-down financing.
What's Involved in Going Solar?

What happens once you sign your agreement to go solar? Once you sign your agreement, you will be assigned a dedicated Project Manager that will keep you posted through every step of your project. The whole installation process typically takes 30-60 days from the time you sign the agreement. Most of this time is spent waiting for permits and inspections.

   · First, we schedule your official site survey.
   · Next, we create the final design and submit it to the City or County to
     receive a construction permit.
   · Once the approved permit is received, we schedule your installation,
which typically takes 1-3 days depending on the size of your system.
   · After we finish installing the solar system, we schedule the city or county
inspector and/or your utility company to approve the installation. At this
point you will receive your “Permission to Operate”, or PTO.
   · Once you have the PTO, we power on your system so you can start
enjoying clean energy powered by the sun.
Do I Need to Buy Batteries?

There are two primary ways that homeowners benefit from owning a battery backup system:

First, you can use batteries for backup power. If you want the peace of mind that comes from knowing that your home can provide electricity even when your utility company can't, you will want to install battery backup. If the grid goes down, you will still have power. If disaster strikes, if there's a hurricane in your area, or a fire, or if there is any other unexpected loss of power, having battery backup will allow you to continue to have electricity in your home.

Second, you can often save money by installing battery backup if you live in a region with rate structures that allow you to benefit from using stored power from the battery during the more expensive times of the day.
What is Net Metering?

Net metering is the government policy that enables solar to work for you. In most states, there is a policy that requires that for every kilowatt hour that you transfer into the grid, you will receive a credit for that kilowatt hour. So if your solar system produces 10 kilowatt hours of energy, and it transfers 5 kilowatt hours into the grid, you'll receive a credit from your power company for those 5 kilowatt hours.

Your solar system produces most of its energy during the daytime. During the daytime, you transfer all excess energy into the grid, and it goes “on account” to be used later when you're solar system isn't producing enough electricity. So, in essence, you're banking all those credits for later use when you need it. Then at night (or on a cloudy day), you're able to apply the credits you accumulated from energy transferred to the grid to power you purchase from the power company.
What is the Solar Investment Tax Credit?

The Solar Investment Tax Credit (also known as the ITC) is available for qualifying homeowners who install solar. When you go solar, you can apply for the ITC from the federal government when you file your taxes which, for some homeowners, can result in a reduced, or even zero, tax liability. The ITC was recently increased from 26% to 30% giving homeowners even more reason to go solar. That's why customers who are ready to go solar should do so while the tax credit is so high.

The ITC is a huge part of the value proposition of solar. For example, if you go solar and finance (or purchase with cash) your system, you could receive an income tax credit equal to 30% of your new solar system. And if you finance your system, you can be eligible for this benefit without paying ANY money down for the system. That's why you should go solar today and take advantage of the generous federal subsidies available to you. Supporting clean energy and saving money is always a great combo!
How do Solar Warranties Work?

One of the most common questions our customers ask is how solar warranties work. With Solar each system category has its own separate warranty.

The first warranty is on the solar panels. When you buy a solar system for power, the solar panels are typically warrantied for 25 years. This means that the panels are guaranteed to work for 25 years and continue to produce power. Depending on the solar panels you buy, that production guarantee could be anywhere from 85% of the power they were producing on day one, all the way up to 92% if you opt for a higher-efficiency, premium solar panel.

Option two is you don't do anything. You stay with your utility company. You already know what this entails. You're going to spend a lot more for your energy. And you're going to keep paying the utility company's high and ever-increasing rates every single month… month after month after month into the foreseeable future.

The obvious choice is to produce your own energy by going solar. And once the loan or lease is paid off there's no more payment. Imagine if you weren't spending anything monthly for energy.

We want to help you save money on your power. We want to help you feel proud of how you power your home. And we want to provide you with the best equipment and the best technology to set you up for the future.

Let us help you save money while building a sustainable renewable energy future for you and your family.
Is My Home Eligible for Solar?

Not every home is eligible for solar. Let's hope you're one of the lucky ones, so you can start saving money. There are three main qualifying factors that must be met:

Number one is sun exposure. Does your roof (or the location of your solar panels) get enough access to the sun? One of the things we'll do is analyze your sun exposure from satellite images and other industry specific technology to make sure that you have  proper solar access. There's a minimum percentage we're looking for which, as long as you’ve got that, you're good to go.
Number two is orientation. What direction will your panels be facing? Ideally, we want your panels facing South or West, since this provides the best exposure. So, you're looking for the right amount of sun exposure and you're looking for the right orientation.

And then there's number three. Are there any structural issues with your house or roof that would make it difficult to mount solar panels? Most structural issues, such as a roof that needs to be repaired or replaced, can be addressed before installing the panels. We have you covered here as well with access to professional local contractors who can do the work for you.

We encourage you to reach out and get a no cost no obligation proposal from us. We're more than happy to analyze your property, needs and budget and show you exactly how much money you can save by going solar.
There are two primary ways to finance your solar system today: with a low interest rate loan or a lease. Let's take a look at both options.

A zero down loan means that you can choose a loan term, whether it's 5 years, 10 years, 15 years, 20 years, or 25 years. We offer all of these options, and we offer them at the most competitive rates possible. When you go solar and you finance the system through your loan provider, instead of paying a monthly bill to your utility, you simply pay a less expensive monthly payment to your loan provider. You get to keep the difference.

If, for some reason, a person doesn't qualify for a loan, they will often choose a lease. With a lease you make the same payment every month during the lease term. You'll usually make lease payments for 20 years. It's that simple. Your lease payment is going to be less than what you currently pay your utility company, which means you're saving money every single month.

We will help you figure out what options are available to you. When you get the proposal from Bison Power, your Solar Advisor will provide you with the available options so that you can decide what's best for you. This includes showing you how much money you will save by going solar. Our goal is to make this as easy as possible for you to understand and to make a decision that’s right for you.
We work with all of the industry leading battery manufacturers, so we will make sure that  you're covered properly. Ask your Bison Power Solar Advisor for more information about the battery backup system that's right for you.
It's an important government policy that has enabled solar to expand rapidly in many markets throughout the country. Instead of receiving a power bill you receive a statement showing the power you transferred to the power company. Net Metering gives you the ability to use the grid for selling the energy that you create, reducing the cost of electricity for you and your family.
The second category of warranty is on your inverter, which is the component of your system that transforms the energy you get directly from the sun into usable AC current that can power your home; turn on your lights, power your A/C, and make sure you don't miss your favorite show on TV. Your inverter is warrantied anywhere from 10 to 25 years depending on which product you choose.

The third part of the warranty covers workmanship. The workmanship warranty can cover up to 10 years. This warranty covers all the work that is done on your house when installing your solar system, the work done on your roof installing the solar panels, and the work done inside your electrical panel. This work is generally warrantied for 10 years.

So, to sum up… 25 years on the solar panels, 10 to 25 years on the inverter, and 10 years on the workmanship. Batteries are also covered with a separate warranty. These warranties vary widely depending on the manufacturer and battery type. We definitely have you covered when it comes to protecting your solar investment and making sure that it provides value to you for the long run.
